Using microspherical scaffolds as building blocks to repair bone defects of specific size and shape has been proposed as a tissue engineering strategy. Here, phosphate glass (PG) microcarriers doped with 5 mol % TiO 2 and either 0 mol % CoO (CoO 0%) or 2 mol % CoO (CoO 2%) were investigated for their ability to support osteogenic and vascular responses of human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs). Together with standard culture techniques, cell-material interactions were studied using a novel perfusion microfluidic bioreactor that enabled cell culture on microspheres, along with automated processin

A study was carried out in the Kartuzy lake complex, which has been a receiver of raw domestic sewage since the 1950s. In 2018, the city’s sewage system of Kartuzy was modernized. An analysis of the water quality prior to the modernization of the sewage system revealed that the total phosphorus (TP) load that was introduced to the individual lakes from external sources substantially exceeded the dangerous load concentration (defined by Vollenweider) that causes accelerated eutrophication. The annual TP load introduced to the analyzed lakes in 2017 exceeded the critical load by 200% (Mielenko)

Bone tissue exhibits viscoelastic behavior, and stress relaxation analysis provides valuable insight into its time-dependent mechanical performance. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of allicin supplementation on the mechanical and viscoelastic properties of tibial bone in Bovans Brown laying hens. Tibiae of 68-week-old hens were subjected to three-point bending tests to determine quasi-static mechanical properties, as well as stress relaxation tests conducted at three deformation velocities (0.1, 1, and 10 mm/s). Stress relaxation behavior was described using a five-parameter generaliz

Background : The collection of microorganisms that colonize the human genital and urinary tract is referred to as the genitourinary microbiome. Urinary tract infections (UTIs), which predominantly affect women, are linked to alterations in the genitourinary microbiome. Cranberries ( Vaccinium oxycoccos ), rich in proanthocyanidins, and ascorbic acid (vitamin C), known for their urinary acidification properties, are commonly used for UTI prevention. However, their effects on the genitourinary microbiome remain inadequately characterized. This pilot study assesses the genitourinary microbiome co

Basic chemical, microbiological, sensory analyses, and instrumental measurements of the colour and texture of dry-cured sausages (pork, as a control group with 51% lean pork and experimental groups with 51% lean beaver and nutria meat in fresh state) were performed. Cyberloafing is the use of (e.g. smartphones, tablets, laptops, and the Internet) for purposes other than work related reasons during work hours. Although cyberloafing in the workplace has been widely investigated, there is relatively a small number of studies on cyberloafing behaviors in educational settings, which refer to students' tendencies to use technology for non-class-related purposes during lectures. The goal of the current study is to determine how frequently and for what purposes speech and language therapy (SLT) students at Biruni University engage in cyberloafing during lectures.

Background. Idiopathic scoliosis is among the most common spinal disorders diagnosed in 1–3% of children and adolescents. Treatment choice is related to disease severity, with a Cobb angle of 20–40°, a corrective brace or physiotherapy can stop its progression. However, insufficient research has shown whether combined treatment is better than monotherapy. Aim. To evaluate the effect of combining bracing and physiotherapy to reduce spinal deformity, improve quality of life and lung function, and compare the results with those of monotherapy.
