Study on the Evaluation Standard of Construction Quality for Asphalt Pavement Based on the Intelligent Sensing Aggregate

Chen Zhang, Yuxin Zheng · 2021 · Advances in Civil Engineering

The traditional evaluation method of construction quality for asphalt pavement has gradually lagged behind the pace of development of the road industry. Big data, Internet of Things (IoT), and intelligent sensing technology have been reflected in the field of road engineering, but these technologies also have technical shortcomings in terms of applicability, durability, real-time performance, and portability in practice. To provide a new method for construction quality evaluation of asphalt pavement, this study developed an intelligent sensing aggregate (ISA) with low cost and high precision b

In-Plane Instability of Parabolic Arches under Uniformly Distributed Vertical Load Coupled with Temperature Gradient Field

Zhenyu Pan, Deyuan Deng, Changsheng Feng et al. · 2022 · Advances in Civil Engineering

In civil engineering, arches, such as steel arch roofs and arch bridges, are often subjected to linear temperature gradient field. It is known that the in-plane instability of parabolic arches is caused by the significant axial force. The arch under the linear temperature gradient field produces complex axial force, and so the instability of arches would be affected by temperature gradient field significantly. However, the analytical solutions of in-plane instability of parabolic arches being subjected to the uniformly distributed vertical load and the temperature gradient field are not solved

Innovative polymer-based electrochemical platform for detecting ESAT-6 in human blood for pulmonary tuberculosis diagnosis

Xiu-An Ye, Shu-Hong Lin, Liang-Yu Chen et al. · 2025 · Sensing and Bio-Sensing Research

Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB), caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), necessitates early diagnosis for effective patient care. Despite advancements in TB diagnostics, there remains an urgent need to discover innovative non-sputum-based methods to detect Mtb-specific antigens for TB patient identification. We have developed a polymer-based electrochemical biosensor for detecting an Mtb-specific antigen, the 6-kDa early secreted antigenic target (ESAT-6), in blood. Using a gold electrode (Au), the biosensor is created by electropolymerizing poly(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene) with carboxyl grou

Acquisition setup for rock fragmentation measurement in field conditions

Chairul Salam M., Maharani Rindu Widara, Ign Mahendradewa Adam et al. · 2026 · Journal of Engineering and Applied Science

Abstract Rock fragmentation is a key determinant of downstream excavation performance in surface mining operations. Among blasting design parameters, stemming depth governs explosive energy confinement; however, its field-scale influence on fragmentation quality and excavation efficiency remains insufficiently quantified. This study experimentally investigates the effect of two stemming depths (3 m and 4 m) on rock fragmentation characteristics and excavator cycle time through controlled field blasting trials conducted in a hard sandstone formation. All blasts were executed using identical dri

The Potential to Replace Cement with Nano-Calcium Carbonate and Natural Pozzolans in Cemented Mine Backfill

Mohammed Hefni, Maaz A. Ali · 2021 · Advances in Civil Engineering

The effectiveness of mine backfilling depends on the properties of its constituents. The high cost of cement, which is commonly used as a binder in mine backfill, has led researchers to seek alternatives to partially replace it with other binders. This study investigated the potential to use nano-calcium carbonate (NCC) and natural pozzolans (zeolite and pumice) along with Portland cement (PC) in mine backfill. Two types of experimental samples were prepared: (1) gold tailings and silica sand to investigate the effect of NCC and (2) nickel tailings to investigate the effect of natural pozzolan

Properties of red sandstone-limestone-cement ternary composites: Hydration mechanism, microstructure, and high-temperature damage

Weichuan Zhang, Mingxian Zhao, Zhongyan Yang et al. · 2024 · Developments in the Built Environment

A significant amount of waste is generated during the sandstone mining process. This study explores the use of red sandstone waste as a supplementary cementitious material to address environmental concerns in cement production. The experimental methods include isothermal calorimetry, compressive strength testing, thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, high-temperature damage testing (200, 600, and 900 °C), and mesoscopic image analysis. The experimental findings reveal the following: (1) Red sandstone powder enhanced cement hydration

Performance Evaluation of Wastewater Treated Plant for Ninava Drug Factory

Amar Thamir Hamad, Musaab Al-Tamer · 2011 · Tikrit Journal of Engineering Sciences

In this study the characteristics of raw and treated wastewater from Ninava drug factory were evaluated. The results revealed that the strength of raw wastewater can be classified as medium concentrated wastewater with respect to its BOD5 since the average value is 231.7 mg/l. In addition a strong correlations were found between many characteristics of raw waste. The characteristics of produced effluent from waste water treatment plant of the factory were within the Iraqi specification for the disposed wastewater constraints in 1997, where the average is 7.8 for pH, 40mg/l for SS, 2.8 mg/l for

The Effect of Inclination Angle on Critical Heat Flux in a Locally Heated Liquid Film Moving Under the Action of Gas Flow in a Mini-Channel

Tkachenko Egor M., Zaitsev Dmitry V. · 2016 · MATEC Web of Conferences

Intensively evaporating liquid films moving under the action of the cocurrent gas flow in a microchannel are promising for the use in modern cooling systems of semiconductor devices with high local heat release. This work has studied the dependence of the critical heat flux on the inclination angle of the channel. It has been found that the inclination angle in the plane parallel to the flow has no significant effect on the critical heat flux. Whereas the inclination angle in the plane perpendicular to the flow, on the contrary, significantly changes the value of the critical heat flux. Howeve
