Plasma Level of Oxidized Low- Density Lipoprotein in Macroalbuminuric

Manoochehr Nakhjavani, Firouzeh Asgarani, Fatemeh Esfahanian et al. · 2009 · Acta Medica Iranica

Accumulating evidence suggest that in patients with diabetes mellitus, increased rate of lipoprotein oxidation and oxidative stress have important role in diabetic angiopathy, including nephropathy. To evaluate the association of oxidized low- density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) with the development of diabetic nephropathy, plasma level of ox-LDL were measured in 70 diabetic patients with macro and 63 patients with normoalbuminuria. The plasma oxidized- LDL level in patients with macroalbuminuria was higher than those in normoalbuminuric group, (85.72 ± 32.92 mu/L versus 75.07 ± 26.46 u/L, P= 0.041).

Baumann Gert, Gericke Christine, Mueller Simone et al. · 2010 · BMC Women's Health

Abstract Background Decreased levels of circulating bone marrow-derived progenitor cells have been associated with risk factors and cardiovascular diseases. Smoking is the most important modifiable risk factor for atherosclerosis in young women. The aim of this pilot study was to assess in healthy premenopausal women without other risk factors for cardiovascular disease the influence of nicotine abuse on the number of circulating progenitor cells in relation to endothelial function. Methods The number of endothelial progenitor cells, measured as colony-forming units in a cell-culture assay (EP

Raw material depletion and scenario assessment in European Union – A circular economy approach

Florinda F. Martins, Hélio Castro · 2020 · Energy Reports

Nowadays the production systems are linear and the consumption patterns are essentially based on products with a short life cycle, which contribute to increase the demand for raw materials and environmental impacts. The Circular Economy (CE) is playing a major role among scholars and practitioners. Many aspects are now defining this new trending paradigm such as the roles of product development, transformation and remanufacturing/recycling, and/or management of waste, ensuring the economic and environmental benefits. The increasing demand causes instability of the prices and markets, and there

Effect of yoga on autonomic nervous system function in females

Rika Kimoto, Isao Kambayashi, Akane Akizuki et al. · 2021 · Journal of Physical Fitness and Sports Medicine

The autonomic nervous system (ANS) maintains homeostasis through the balance of the sympathetic and parasympathetic subsystems or divisions. Currently, analysis of heart rate variability (HRV) offers an indirect, non-invasive assessment of ANS function. An irregular lifestyle and stress are known to affect ANS balance, influencing many diseases. Moreover, ANS disorder plays an important role in climacteric symptoms in menopausal females. The purpose of this study was designed to assess the effects of yoga practice sessions (herein referred to as “yoga”) on ANS function and focused on the relat

Evaluation of the relationship between muscle mass and serum myostatin levels in chronic hemodialysis patients

Derya Koyun, Gokhan Nergizoglu, Kemal Metin Kir · 2018 · Saudi Journal of Kidney Diseases and Transplantation

The loss of muscle mass and cachexia is commonly seen in hemodialysis (HD) patients and contribute to morbidity and mortality. The exact mechanism of this fact is multifactorial and still unclear. Myostatin, a transforming growth factor-ß family ligand, is released from the skeletal and heart muscle and may be responsible for muscle degradation and atrophy. The aim of this study is evaluation of the relationship between muscle mass and serum myostatin level in chronic HD patients. One hundred and forty HD patients (79 males, 28 diabetic, mean age; 53.96 ± 13.6) were included in this cross-sect

Assessment of beet leaf yellowing virus tolerance based on leaf yellowing in sugar beet

Yosuke Kuroda, Kazuyuki Okazaki, Kenji Takashino et al. · 2025 · Agrosystems, Geosciences & Environment

Abstract Sugar beet (Beta vulgaris) production in Japan faces major challenges from virus yellows (VY), caused by beet leaf yellowing virus (BLYV) and transmitted by aphids. Outbreaks have reduced sugar yields, and breeding for tolerant varieties has not been conducted in Japan. This study marks the first step toward developing VY‐tolerant varieties by testing three hypotheses: (1) leaf yellowing can be induced by artificial inoculation, (2) tolerance varies among breeding materials, and (3) differences in tolerance to yellowing disease can be evaluated. From 2017 to 2020, four sugar beet mate
