The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of caffeine intake on critical power model parameters determined on a cycle ergometer. Eight male subjects participated in this study. A double-blind protocol consisting of the intake of pure caffeine (6 mg/kg) or placebo (maltodextrin) 60 min before testing was used. Subjects were submitted to four constant-load tests on a cycle ergometer. These tests were conducted randomly in the caffeine and placebo groups [checar] at intensities of 80, 90, 100 and 110% maximum power at a rate of 70 rpm until exhaustion to determine the critical power. In this paper we present a new parsing algorithm for linear indexed grammars (LIGs) in the same spirit as the one described in (Vijay-Shanker and Weir, 1993) for tree adjoining grammars. For a LIG $L$ and an input string $x$ of length $n$, we build a non ambiguous context-free grammar whose sentences are all (and exclusively) valid derivation sequences in $L$ which lead to $x$. We show that this grammar can be built in ${\cal O}(n^6)$ time and that individual parses can be extracted in linear time with the size of the extracted parse tree. Though this ${\cal O}(n^6)$ upper bound does not impro

ABSTRACT: The purpose of this experiment was to determine if nicotinic acid (NA) effects on dairy cows and rumen microbial characteristics are forage-type dependent (corn silage, CS; grass silage, GS). Four late-lactation (DIM = 225 ± 12 d) Holstein cows were used in a 4 × 4 Latin square design with a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement of treatments. The main effects were a CS (66.10% CS) based diet or a GS (79.59%) based diet with or without 12 g/d NA. Each experimental period lasted for 28 d. Milk production and milk components, blood metabolites, apparent total-tract nutrient digestibilities, minu

Objectives: Vitamin B6 deficiency is associated with a wide spectrum of clinical syndromes. While vitamin B6 status is primarily assessed by measuring the biologically active form of the vitamin, pyridoxal 5-phosphate (PLP), concurrent measurement of the final metabolite 4-pyridoxic acid (PA) can provide additional information regarding supplement intake and hypophosphatasia. The aim of this study is to develop a simple method traceable to the NIST standard reference material 3950 for simultaneous detection of PLP and PA. Design & methods: A one-step reverse phase HPLC method with fluorescence

Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is associated with deficits in decision-making, which is of utmost importance for daily functioning. Despite evidence of declined decision-making abilities, research on decision-making interventions for MCI is scarce. As metacognition seems to play an important role in decision-making, the present study’s aim was to examine whether a metacognitive strategy training can improve MCI patients’ decision-making abilities. Older adults—patients of a day care center, diagnosed with amnestic MCI (n = 55) were randomly allocated in two groups, which were matched in gende

As investors increasingly use Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria, a key challenge remains: ESG data is typically reported annually, while financial markets move much faster. This study investigates whether incorporating annual ESG scores can improve monthly stock return forecasts for German DAX-listed firms. We employ a multivariate long short-term memory (LSTM) network, a machine learning model ideal for time series data, to test this hypothesis over two periods: an 8-year analysis with a full set of ESG scores and a 16-year analysis with a single disclosure score. We extend the constrained maximum likelihood estimation theory for parameters of a completely identified model, proposed by Aitchison and Silvey (1958), to parameters arising from a partially identified model. With a partially identified model, some parameters of the model may only be identified through constraints imposed by additional assumptions. We show that, under certain conditions, the constrained maximum likelihood estimator exists and locally maximize the likelihood function subject to constraints. We then study the asymptotic distribution of the estimator and propose a numerical algo
