Failure-mode index

Search what already failed

A searchable index of real negative results, null findings, and replication failures from the published literature — so you can learn what didn't work before repeating it.

WASTE indexes published research — it does not host or republish full papers. Each entry is a metadata record (title, authors, DOI) compiled from open scholarly databases, with the abstract shown in full only where the paper is openly licensed (e.g. Creative Commons); otherwise a short excerpt is shown for reference under fair use. WASTE classifies each work by failure type; classifications are automated and approximate.

Antioxidant and Antistaphylococcal Activity of Topical Fucoidan Gel from Sargassum oligocystum Montagne

Richie Bayuran · 2019 · JPAIR

Brown seaweed is one of the algal species that has been used as food, a source of nutritional supplements, and formulated for therapeutic and cosmetic purposes. This study evaluated the antioxidant and antistaphylococcal activities of topical fucoidan gel (TFG) from the Sargassum oligocystum. A completely randomized design was used, and the experimental protocol includes extraction, lyophilization, and characterization, quality testing, and biological assay. Physicochemical tests suggested that the lyophilized fucoidan is comparable with the properties of pharmaceutical-grade fucoidan. FTIR ch

Evaluation of Bile Salts on the Survival and Modulation of Virulence of Aliarcobacter butzleri

Cristiana Mateus, Cláudio J. Maia, Fernanda Domingues et al. · 2023 · Antibiotics

Aliarcobacter butzleri is a Gram-negative bacterium associated with infections of the gastrointestinal tract and widely distributed in various environments. For successful infection, A. butzleri should be able to tolerate various stresses during gastrointestinal passage, such as bile. Bile represents an antimicrobial host barrier that acts against external noxious agents and consists of a variety of bile salts. The intestinal bile salts act as detergents involved in the antimicrobial host defense; although, on the bacterial side, they could also serve as a signal to activate virulence mechanis

Non-significant Effect of El Niño on the Nest Occupancy and Breeding Success of Markham’s Storm Petrel Hydrobates markhami

Fernando Medrano, Benjamín Gallardo, Pablo Gutiérrez et al. · 2024 · Marine Ornithology

The impact of the El Niño varies across seabirds, usually altering the distribution and causing population declines. Understanding El Niño’s effects is thus critical for conservation. We monitored 296 nests of the little-known Hydrobates…
