Background: Cervical cancer is the second most prevalent malignancy among South African women, with high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) infection as a critical risk factor. HPV plays a central role in cervical carcinogenesis, particularly in high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL).
