Addition of bone morphogenetic protein type 2 to ascorbate and -glycerophosphate supplementation did not enhance osteogenic differentiation of human adipose-derived stem cells

Ariadne Cristiane Cabral Cruz, Mariana Lúcia Silva, Thiago Caon et al. · 2012 · Journal of Applied Oral Science

Bone morphogenetic protein type 2 (BMP-2) is a potent local factor, which promotes bone formation and has been used as an osteogenic supplement for mesenchymal stem cells. OBJECTIVES: This study evaluated the effect of a recombinant BMP-2 as well as the endogenous BMP-4 and BMP-7 in the osteogenic differentiation of adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) in medium supplemented with ascorbate and -glycerophosphate. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Human ASCs were treated with osteogenic medium in the presence (ASCs+OM+BMP-2) or absence (ASCs+OM) of BMP-2. The alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity was determined

Effects of executive function training on balance and auditory-cognitive dual-task performance in adults with and without hearing loss.

Niroshica Mohanathas, Lianna Montanari, Rachel Downey et al. · 2026 · PLoS ONE

Background Multitasking, such as listening while balancing, relies on integrated processing in the sensory, cognitive, and motor systems; systems that often decline with age. Hearing loss is linked to increased risks of both falls and cognitive decline. Improving cognitive processing through executive function (EF) training may support balance, especially in older adults with hearing loss. This randomized controlled study conducted across age groups and hearing abilities, examined the effects of a 12-week EF training program on postural outcomes (center of pressure (COP)) using an auditory-cog

Health-related quality of life and self-related health in patients with type 2 diabetes: Effects of group-based rehabilitation versus individual counselling

Vadstrup Eva S, Frølich Anne, Perrild Hans et al. · 2011 · Health and Quality of Life Outcomes

Abstract Background Type 2 diabetes can seriously affect patients' health-related quality of life and their self-rated health. Most often, evaluation of diabetes interventions assess effects on glycemic control with little consideration of quality of life. The aim of the current study was to study the effectiveness of group-based rehabilitation versus individual counselling on health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and self-rated health in type 2 diabetes patients. Methods We randomised 143 type 2 diabetes patients to either a six-month multidisciplinary group-based rehabilitation programme in
