Following the established application of deep brain stimulation (DBS) in the treatment of movement disorders, new non-neurological indications have emerged, such as for obsessive-compulsive disorders, major depressive disorder, dementia, Gilles de la Tourette Syndrome, anorexia nervosa, and addictions.
