Abstract
In the present work we report, for the first time, a novel difference in the molecular mechanism of the activation step of aminoacylation reaction between the class I and class II aminoacyl tRNA synthetases (aaRSs). The observed difference is in the mode of nucleophilic attack by the oxygen atom of the carboxylic group of the substrate amino acid (AA) to the αP atom of adenosine triphosphate (ATP).
