Failure-mode index

Search what already failed

A searchable index of real negative results, null findings, and replication failures from the published literature — so you can learn what didn't work before repeating it.

WASTE indexes published research — it does not host or republish full papers. Each entry is a metadata record (title, authors, DOI) compiled from open scholarly databases, with the abstract shown in full only where the paper is openly licensed (e.g. Creative Commons); otherwise a short excerpt is shown for reference under fair use. WASTE classifies each work by failure type; classifications are automated and approximate.

Interventions for renal artery stenosis: Appraisal of novel physiological insights and procedural techniques to improve clinical outcome.

Drieghe B, De Buyzere M, Bové T et al. · 2024 · Catheterization and cardiovascular interventions : official journal of the Society for Cardiac Angiography & Interventions

Randomized clinical trials failed to show additional benefit of renal artery stenting on top of medical therapy. Instead of writing an obituary on renal artery stenting, we try to explain these disappointing results. A transstenotic…

An integrated approach for knowledge extraction and analysis in collaborative knowledge construction

Ning Zhang, Fan Ouyang · 2023 · International Journal of Educational Technology in Higher Education

Abstract Collaborative knowledge construction (CKC) involved students’ sharing of information, improvement of ideas, and construction of collective knowledge. In this process, knowledge extraction and analysis can provide valuable insights into students’ knowledge capacities, depths, and levels in order to improve the CKC quality. However, existing studies tended to extract and analyze knowledge from a single perspective (e.g., the number of certain knowledge types and knowledge structures), which failed to demonstrate the complexity and dynamics of knowledge construction and advancement. Search for the Decay $τ^{-}\to 4pi^{-}3π^{+}(π^{0})ν_τ$

CLEO Collaboration, K. Edwards et al · 1997 · arXiv

We have searched for the decay of the tau lepton into seven charged particles and zero or one pi0. The data used in the search were collected with the CLEO II detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring (CESR) and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.61 fb^(-1). No evidence for a signal is found. Assuming all the charged particles are pions, we set an upper limit on the branching fraction, B(tau- -> 4pi- 3pi+ (pi0) nu_tau) < 2.4 x 10^(-6) at the 90% confidence level. This limit represents a significant improvement over the previous limit.

Effect of different cryopreservation extenders added with antioxidants on semen quality and in vitro embryo production efficiency in cattle

NATALIA C. SILVA, KAREN M. LEÃO, JOÃO T. PÁDUA et al. · 2021 · Anais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências

Abstract To evaluate the addition of antioxidants in extenders on post-thaw bovine semen quality and in vitro embryo production efficiency. Six semen samples were collected from five Holstein bulls. In the experiment I, the samples were diluted with AndroMed® and Bovimix® and added antioxidants glutathione (1.5 and 2.5 mM) and melatonin (0.5 and 1.0 mM). In the experiment II, the best treatments obtained in experiment I were used for in vitro fecundation. Glutathione did not improve sperm viability. Melatonin had a negative effect on semen characteristics. Andromed® showed better results in sp
